Reading List
November 5th, 2006 by Shaun
My first month of University life is over and from what I remember of it, there was a lot of learning and studying. Probably not enough to the University standard because of the excess alcohol consumption with my good friend ExGenesys.
Now that I’m a student - what way to blow a crapload of money then to buy some books. Over the course of the year(s) I want to read more books. Here is my personal reading list for the future along with handy dandy links to Amazon.co.uk where they have a lot more information on them.
Here is my handy dandy list of books I want to read (some good, some not so good) grouped randomly by types of vegetables I ate today

Have any of my loyal blog subscribers ever read any of the books listed above, how were they and would you recommend it to me? Comments and suggestions much appreciated. I’ve also joined the Something Awful book club - so hopefully the goons of SA can suggest further books.
EDIT: 5th Nov 06
I’ve added these three books due to Binar’s recommendation:
Angels And Deamons - Dan Brown
Deception Point - Dan Brown
Digital Fortress - Dan Brown
I would recomend
Angels And Deamons - Dan Brown (prequel to Davinci Code)
Deception Point - Dan Brown
Digital Fortress - Dan Brown
Stealing The Network How To Own The Box - Ryan Russell (its a fun read but you ned to allo it some imagination)
At Large - David H. Freeman, Charles C. Mann
Secrets & Lies Bruce Schneier
irtual Worlds - Benjamin Woolley (hard to find, you can loan my copy of course :D)
HitchHikers Guide To The Galaxy - Dougals Adams
[ Quote ]Well, you know I won’t suggest Dan Brown, as I like my books written for adults.. as opposed to an idea stealing, fact frauding piece of shit..
The HHGTTG 5 would top my list in terms of brilliance, a witty look at life and parody of social climates, and trade unions, probably my favourite series of books..
Narnia chronicles [Although I think you own these already] are well worth a read and tell a very good story..
Neuromancer by William Gibson, the book that inspired The Matrix, a fantastic post punk look at cyber domination, feels very V for Vendetta in how it plays out..
The Essential Spike Milligan, a collection of his earlier transcripts and poetry, from his hilarious Goons show stuff to extracts from Hitler, fantastic read and hilarious..
Idlewild & Edenborn by Nick Sagan, just incredibly written fiction, a stellar story about post apocalyptic Britain and how the world functions therein..
There’s literally hundreds of books to reccommend, without touching on the classics..
I always found Catcher in the rye and Catch 22 to be mind numbingly dull, I just don’t see [outside of the MK ultra trigger word association] how they are regarded as works of art..
[ Quote ]I’ll give the Dan Brown books a go although I’m not too keen on paying money to read the script kiddie books. But Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is a definite, fantastic choice.
You again support the idea of Hitchhikers Guide, sweet. Essential Spike Milligan would be interesting too - if you look further back I posted a poem of his on my blog.
I really should read Catcher in the Rye and Catch-22 before I attempt to criticize it in my opinion so I’ll give them a whirl.
[ Quote ]Please enlighted me to which parts of the 3 Dan Browns books I sugested were… “idea stealing, fact frauding piece of shit”
Davinci code was not a good book, but his previouse 3 were MUCH superior to Davinci Code.
[ Quote ]I hear that there is a new book coming out next month by the author of the Davinci Code.
